The majority of drug users are not drug ADDICTS. Tons of perfectly normal functioning people take drugs for an occasional or semi-regular treat and don't make a lifestyle out of it.

If a drug free society is never going to happen how come drugs are illegal? Make drugs legal, good. Make drugs illegal, good. Make some drugs legal and some drugs illegal, bad. Drug addicts use drugs. People are drug free. Denial is a symptom of drug addiction. Legal or illegal a drug is still a drug. Legal or illegal a drug addict is still a drug addict. What do you feel is the reason the 18th Amendment was created for in the first place? Drug addicts then and now are ignoring it.

User DOES NOT equal addict. You're an addict if you use to excess and if you feel you can't go a day without your drug of choice, if your life revolves around your next dose, if it's your top priority.

Somebody who enjoys a pint of beer with lunch every once in awhile is hardly in the same category as someone who wakes up and downs half a pint of vodka first thing. Somebody who does heroin twice a month isn't the same as someone who shoots up multiple times daily. There's such as thing as moderate use. Moderation by definition is not addiction. Trying to equate any and all drug consumption with addiction is factually incorrect. Declaring that the only alternative to total abstinence is reckless consumption is a false dichotomy. I work in harm reduction and one of the most impotent things we try to get into people's heads is that if they don't want to go full abstinent for whatever personal reasons, they can learn to moderate their use and stop being an addict.

Those laws were passed for entirely political reasons. Then the religious moralising of the temperance movement ensured that the general public equated sobriety with 'decency', a good character and being an 'upstanding citizen', and drug use with 'undesirables' and criminality. Since the US heavily influenced and even downright dictated drug policies in other countries, the puritanical attitude that was a motivating factor for many of those policies got exported as well. Yes there is hypocrisy in the way alcohol seems to stand apart from other drugs, but alcohol has been a mainstream thing for 1000s of years and human society hasnt collapsed. Try having a glass of meth everyday with dinner and see how long society lasts.

People have been using meth forever and society has yet to collapse. Ethanol is drugs. Denial is a symptom of drug addiction. Our 18th Amendment started the War Against Drugs. How come the 18th Amendment was created in the first place? Ethanol drug addicts have been ignoring the 18th Amendment and are just simply making excuses. Ethanol drug addicts are using force against individuals who have a disease. Ethanol drug addicts are aware of what they are doing and they are still doing it. After a lifetime of this bullshit a person gets a little frustrated. Forgive me.

There is an old adage "Repetition Works". Drug addiction is a disease. Denial is a symptom of drug addiction. Some drug addicts are being encouraged to become sicker. Other drug addicts are being forcibly Prohibited from getting sicker. We have to decide how we are going to treat the disease of drug addiction and apply it equally to all drug addicts. Once we all admit we are drug addicts, the healing will begin.

In my neighborhood that beer has to be in a paper bag or my ass is in jail. Again, inconsistencies on how to manage a disease. Denial is a symptom of drug addiction. What ever part of the world we are in ethanol is drugs and drug addiction is a disease.

Drug addiction isn't a disease. There's no organic pathology involved. Addiction is a disordered behaviour, not an illness. Which a dr can easy, or should, be treated with a XYREM/ GHB taper.

makes more sense to me.

Except if the goal is that the Alcoholic suffers during WD.
And Hypocratus became hypocrit.

Nope. People who use addictively in general have problems for which they're trying to compensate. Whichever way, people have REASONS for their drug use. They have motivating factors that drive it. The addiction fulfils a FUNCTION for the individual, and more often than not it's a maladaptive coping mechanism. You do not not take anything to excess if you don't feel it gives you something. Nobody ever gets addicted to shit they don't LIKE.

And don't get on at me about drug-induced brain changes. Those are a thing but are reversible, and they do not in and of themselves COMPEL drug use, but merely facilitate it.
People stop being addicts all the time at the height of their addiction, the exact moment when their brain is about as 'changed by drugs' as it's ever going to be. They do so WITHOUT medication and without some type of neurosurgery, which SHOULD logically be required in order to quit or moderate if addiction was a genuine 'disease of the brain'.

I myself was an addict by anyone's description, and I DECIDED one day I was just done with the lifestyle. Please tell me any genuine disease where a change of mind magically gets rid of your symptoms.

Nobody can make a personal decision to just NOT be diabetic or epileptic or schizophrenic anymore. Yet it works for 'the disease of addiction'. Which doesn't mean many don't struggle. I certainly did. But again the struggle was due to a conflict of motivations. I wanted a better life but I also wanted to keep using at high frequencies. Why? Because I believed that I needed the drug to function and that nothing could ever match the pleasure of it. I managed to make a change once I reached the point where my reasons to not use constantly outweighed the perceived personal necessity / benefits of using constantly.

I've had professionals working at effing rehab clinics straight-up admit to me when pressed that the disease model is 'metaphorical' and is basically only instituted to try and take away the stigma of perceived 'immorality'. At some point someone thought that stigma could only be opposed by declaring excessive drug use a disease so that maybe the state would stop persecuting users as criminals and instead get them help.

It's a fallacious premise since we should not need to declare something a disease in order to take it seriously. The common cold is an actual disease after all, and is totally trivial.

Next Generation is peak star trek. Voyager was ok. Those are the only ones I like.

Well the originals came out in the 70s and 80s and most people like them. All the other came out way later and most people hate them, so episodes IV-VI is probably the way to go then if you like it there's lots more to explore/be disappointed by.

Back when George Bush the 1st was president I made an attempt at a public awareness campaign. At that time the attitude in NJ was ignore him and he will go away. Today, with this interweb thingy it is a lot easier to get the word out. Everybody, we will make a difference. The most important thing right now is to tell as many people as possible about this thread. Tell them how stupid this guy is and laugh with them, tell them how different his point of view is and grow with them. Whatever it takes, our first step is to increase our numbers.

I was talking about sea otters. I guess sea lions are evil also. But they are animals.

Whether or not sea lions are doing that is unknown to me untill I read it. I know what I was talking about. SO DON'T YELL AT ME LIKE I DON'T KNOW SEA OTTERS ARE TREACHEROUS EVIL LITTLE BASTARDS. OR INFER I AM STUPID ENOUGH TO MIX THEM UP WITH SEA LIONS. DOWN at Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco I got to see and hear them. In retrospect all those signs about not throwing rocks or other things at them makes sense. But I was not talking about large annoying, loud and disgusting bulbous aquatic mammals, but those small cute little otters that fishermen in areas despise.
The evil little bastards that spend a large part of their lives floating on their backs and the males kidnapping the pups, so the females will bring them food in exchange for not killing her offspring.

I would like to propose a plan for The Rebels. We grow our fam and when we are 10,000 strong we agree to converge on a place that symbolizes the War Against Drugs. We decide on a date, get the proper paperwork for a legal protest, get everyone in a single place and for an entire day we all chant:
"Alcohol Is Drugs, Shrimps Is Bugs, Cavemen Did Meth, Show Us Your Breasts". When the reporters ask us how come we have such an absurd chat, we can answer that it reflects the absurdity of the War Against Drugs.

There both animals. All I was saying is animals can do horrible stuff to each other. They are animals and do what animals do. In this case male otters are horrible and apparently so are sea lions.

You never had the misfortune of meeting my mom having a benzo rage incident. I am basically immune to being yelled at and there being no real consequences. But I thought you were yelling at me about sea lions and that I don't know the difference between an otter and a sea lion. Yes again, they are both animals.

Rebels, by saying the 18th Amendment is Alive and Well we are Putting Pressure on the Federal Government to enforce Prohibition against ethanol. What is this a citizens arrest? Only legal in WI if they have probable cause for a felony (which first offence would be a misdemeanor), Disturbing the peace (which I'm not in my own home), or shoplifting (which would involve me getting caught in a completly different scenario so n/a)... All I would have to do is say it's someone else's in the house. Shit I got rn is only illegal cause of my age. There's essentially legal weed now even if you aren't in a legal state. You can pick up URB products at pretty much any head shop completly legal. I ain't got shrooms in the house rn so literally nothing they could peg me on. You can try this with others IG, but no matter what I come out Scott free at this moment. Worse they could do to me is a truency ticket 🤣
