Title: BLACK SABBATH
Post by: danfr2 on Apr 05, 2025, 08:37 PM
This part of the album is my Favorite of ANY Black Sabbath Album.

Dreams Turn To Nightmares

Heaven Turns To Hell

Burned Out Confusion

Nothing More To Tell

YEAH!

Not sure of the meaning of this song, I feel it is Economic Slavery.

The "economic ladder" in England refers to the social and economic hierarchy where individuals occupy different positions based on their income, wealth, and access to opportunities, with significant disparities existing between the top earners and the poorest, often with challenges for people to move up the ladder due to factors like regional differences and social background; essentially, it highlights the gap between the wealthy elite, a substantial middle class, and those struggling economically, particularly in regions like the North of England compared to London.

Key points about the economic ladder in England:
High level of inequality:
The UK is considered to have a high level of income and wealth inequality, with the richest 10% of households holding a large proportion of the country's wealth.

Regional disparities:
People living in London and the South generally have better economic opportunities than those in the North, leading to significant regional differences in income and social mobility.

Social mobility challenges:
Climbing the economic ladder can be difficult, especially for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds due to factors like education access, family income, and geographical location.

Impact of education:
Access to quality education plays a major role in determining an individual's potential to move up the economic ladder.

Some key groups on the economic ladder in England:
Upper class:
The wealthiest individuals with significant inherited wealth and high-level professional positions.

Upper middle class:
Professionals with high incomes, often in high-skilled jobs, owning property, and enjoying a comfortable lifestyle.

Middle class:
Individuals with moderate incomes, often employed in white-collar jobs, with varying levels of homeownership.

Working class:
People employed in blue-collar jobs with lower incomes, potentially facing challenges with housing affordability and access to quality healthcare.

Low-income group:
Individuals living in poverty with limited employment opportunities and struggling to meet basic needs.

**************

The economic ladder in the United States is characterized by income inequality, with wealth and mobility varying by race, education, and age.

Income inequality
The top 5% of Americans own three-quarters of the country's wealth, while the bottom 60% own less than 1%.

The middle class has been shrinking, while the upper middle class has grown.

The odds of moving from the bottom to the top of the economic ladder decrease with age.
Social mobility

The American Dream is the idea that anyone can improve their economic standing through their own efforts.
However, the ability to move up the economic ladder has declined in recent decades.
Some factors that may contribute to this include a decline in union membership and technological change.

Economic mobility by race

Black Americans who are born in the bottom quintile have a 50% chance of remaining there, and only a 3% chance of moving to the top.

Economic mobility by age

The odds of moving from the bottom to the top of the economic ladder decline with age.

Lyrics

You've seen right through distorted eyes

You know you had to learn

The execution of your mind

You really had to turn

The race is run, the book is read

The end begins to show

The truth is out, the lies are old

But you don't want to know

Nobody will ever let you know

When you ask the reasons why

They just tell you that you're on your own

Fill your head all full of lies

The people who have crippled you

You want to see them burn

The gates of life have closed on you

And there's just no return

You're wishing that the hands of doom

Could take your mind away

And you don't care if you don't see

again The light of day

Nobody will ever let you know

When you ask the reasons why

They just tell you that you're on your own

Fill your head all full of lies

You bastards

Where can you run to?

What more can you do?

No more tomorrow

Life is killing you

Dreams turn to nightmares

Heaven turns to hell

Burnt out confusion

Nothing more to tell, yeah

Everything around you

What's it coming to?

God knows as your dog nose

Bog blast all of you

Sabbath bloody Sabbath

Nothing more to do

Living just for dying

Dying just for you, yeah

Yes. This is an important song.

Lyrically it's one of the greatest songs ever written about being totally pissed off with everything, the line "Bog blast all of you" summing it all up.

bog
/bôɡ,bäɡ/
noun
1.
wet muddy ground too soft to support a heavy body.
"a peat bog"
informal•British
a bathroom.
be or become stuck in mud or wet ground.
"the car became bogged down on the beach road"

I feel Ozzy is saying "Diarrhea on all of you"

Yes. This is an important song.

I remember when this shit was first released in the states. Following are my All Time Top Three Favorite Black Sabbath Songs.

Paranoid came out in Europe on Sept. 18, 1970, and its title track reached No. 4 on the UK charts shortly after and number 61 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

It is the first single from the album, while the B-side is the song "The Wizard".
The song is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavy metal songs of all time.

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler (from Guitar World magazine, March 2004):

A lot of the Paranoid album was written around the time of our first album, Black Sabbath. We recorded the whole thing in about 2 or 3 days, live in the studio. The song "Paranoid" was written as an afterthought. We basically needed a 3 minute filler for the album, and Tony came up with the riff. I quickly did the lyrics, and Ozzy was reading them as he was singing.

Here is the entire album, Paranoid by Black Sabbath.

I did a search on War Pigs and found this by accident.
War pigs were pigs used in ancient warfare to fight war elephants. The pigs were set on fire or covered in tar and flammable substances to scare the elephants.

"War Pigs" by Black Sabbath was originally titled "Walpurgis" and was released in 1970.
The song is an anti-war protest song that criticizes military leaders and politicians.
The song was inspired by Butler's experiences living in Birmingham during World War II, when his house was bombed by a German bomb.
The song was originally about Satanic Christmas, but the band's record company changed the title to "War Pigs" because they thought "Walpurgis" sounded too Satanic.
The song's lyrics compare military leaders to sorcerers and "witches at black masses".

When I was in High School this was the favorite song of most metal heads. I think the song is great, but War Pigs is my favorite.

Black Sabbath's song "Iron Man" is about a man who travels to the future, witnesses the apocalypse, and returns to the present to warn humanity. The song was released in 1970 on the album Paranoid.

Meaning
Butler intended the song's subject to be an allegory for Jesus Christ. However, instead of forgiving his doubters, Iron Man seeks vengeance and causes the apocalypse.

Impact
"Iron Man" reached number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972, becoming Black Sabbath's highest charting single.

Other notes
Although the song's title is the same as the Marvel Comics superhero, Butler has said that the two are not related.
